2025 Hyundai Kona
The 2025 Hyundai Kona is a subcompact SUV produced by Hyundai Automotive manufacturer. The 2025 Hyundai Kona is marketed in SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited trim levels. The Kona is as fun to drive as it is to look, making it one of our favorite small SUVs. The Kona designation also continues Hyundai’s tradition of naming crossover SUV models after popular crossovers, including the Creta, Santa Fe, Tucson, and Veracruz. The Kona 2025 Hyundai car is marketed in Portugal as the Hyundai Kauai, as Kona is very similar to cona, a word used for female genitalia in European Portuguese. Kona is also sold in Iceland where the word kona means woman in Icelandic. Like Kona, Kauai is a place in Hawaii, and it is Hawaii for women.
Hyundai also offers an electric version of the Kona, which we discuss in our separate Kona Electric review. The 2025 Hyundai Kona powred with a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is standard on SE and SEL trims and powers the front wheels using a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The N Line and Limited benefit from a 190-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. An all-wheel-drive system is optional with all trims.

Inside. the 2025 Kona interior fit and finish are good, despite the many rough spots. Curved infotainment displays add a sleek and futuristic look, and in the higher trims, hard surfaces turn into beautiful things. The interior design is straightforward but futuristic, and the Kona features rich-looking headlights, a column-mounted shifter, and available leather upholstery. A dual 12.3-inch display dominates the dashboard and is integrated behind a single continuous glass. The first two are adjustable gauges, and the second is a large touchscreen infotainment system. Hyundai’s user interface here and hope to see Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless on the menu as well.
The Hyundai Kona is best for five persons, seats in both rows are comfortable and well-supported, but three adults will feel comfortable only in the back row on short drives. Cloth upholstery is standard, but the best materials come with high-end hardware. Kona has 25.5 cubic feet of storage space behind the back row and 63.7 cubic feet with the back row folded down. This is a big step up from the previous model, giving the 2024 Kona one of the largest cargo capacities in the class.
