2025 Mazda CX-90 : Interior
The CX-90 has a stylish cabin design with interesting details such as fabric inserts on the dashboard and door panels on higher-end models. Most CX-90 models come standard with a second-row bench seat. In this configuration, the total seating capacity is seven or eight, depending on whether the third row is designed for two or three passengers. Either way, it’s best reserved for children. Second-row captain’s chairs, which earn top ratings for comfort, are standard on Premium Plus trim levels and optional on all other trim levels except Select. In the CX-90, seating capacity drops to six or seven, again depending on the third row. Although leather is standard on the Preferred trim, Nappa leather upholstery, which feels more luxurious and soft, is reserved for the Premium Plus trim. Behind the third row is 16 cubic feet of cargo space, enough for three carry-ons. Fold down the rearmost seats and you have 40 cubic feet of space, enough for 16 carry-ons, with all the seats folded, maximum cargo space increases to 75 cubic feet.
The central infotainment screen is built into the dashboard and is controlled by a knob on the center console. This slightly unconventional design requires less reaching and taking your eyes off the road than a typical touchscreen, but navigating the screen takes a learning curve. All models except the entry-level Select come with a 12.3-inch central display. Factory navigation is available on higher trims and can be added to others along with wireless charging. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard with wireless connectivity on all models except the entry-level Select. Lower CX-90 trims feature a 7.0-inch digital instrument display and an eight-speaker stereo. The Premium Sport trim level adds a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo and a fully digital instrument cluster on the Premium Plus, Turbo S models get both.
2025 Mazda CX-90 : Engine
The CX-90 is the first Mazda to use Mazda’s new turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine, powered by a 48-volt hybrid system. The powertrain produces 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque in non-S models and 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque in S models. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and like the rest of Mazda’s SUV lineup, the CX-90 comes standard with all-wheel drive. The 340-horsepower inline-six is particularly smooth, but we weren’t happy with the lag of the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and decided it was best to let the eight-speed automatic transmission shift gears on its own. Surprisingly for an inline-six, the engine made an unrefined sound that didn’t match its smooth operation. The EPA rates the CX-90 at 24 mpg city and 28 mpg highway with the base 280-horsepower engine. The 340-horsepower version drops to 23 mpg city but gets the same 28 mpg highway. On our 75-mph highway route, which uses less fuel, the CX-90 Turbo S got 29 mpg.
