The 43 engine uses a 48-volt hybrid system and comes standard with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The top model of the series, the GLC63 S E Performance, turns up the heat using electric induction. Mercedes-AMG added an electric motor to increase power output to 671 horsepower and 752 lb-ft of torque. Like the 43 model, the 63 comes standard with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. An adaptive suspension system was standard on both models, and the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 also comes with rear-wheel drive. This combination provided agile handling in corners but lacked the firm ride often seen in rivals such as the BMW X3 M Competition.

We only expect about 6 miles or so of electric driving, and that might not be enough for even a quick trip around town. We will update this story with details as we learn more. The EPA estimates the GLC43’s fuel economy at 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, although fuel economy estimates for the GLC63 have not been released.
