2024 McLaren 540C
The 2024 McLaren 540C is a high-end Sports car lineup, and practicality is not a word normally associated with offering everyday comfort in the ergonomically designed interior. The 540C may be McLaren’s most affordable entry-level car but with its carbon fiber chassis, 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, and 533 hp. The 540C shares most of its architecture and looks with its older brother, the McLaren 570S, but it’s less powerful, doesn’t come with carbon ceramic brakes as standard, and has fewer body panels made of carbon fiber. Still, the 540C is as exotic and exciting as you want a supercar to be.
The 2024 McLaren 540C is in fierce competition with Audi and Porsche, just like the more powerful 570S. The 911 Turbo has exactly the same power as the McLaren and at £126,925 only is much more expensive. However, despite having two seats more than the McLaren and weighing 1595 kg, the Porsche 911 Turbo can reach 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, 540c partly due to the fact that it has all-wheel drive.
The 540C’s other close competitor is the Audi R8, which has the same power as the McLaren 540C and Porsche 911 Turbo, but the Audi is marginally cheaper at £119,520. The R8 has an all-wheel drive like the Porsche but cannot keep up with the 0-100 km/h speed of the 911 Turbo. Instead, it reaches 62mph in 3.5 seconds, the same as the McLaren. The Audi R8 has an incredibly naturally aspirated V10 engine that makes the most shimmering sound. As fast as the Porsche 911 and as great as the Audi R8‘s engine, neither offers the same level of connectivity and interactivity as the McLaren 2024 540C.
McLaren 540C : Interior
Inside, the interior is characteristically subtle and minimal so it never feels cramped. It’s a simple yet elegant design that still looks great three years after the Sports Series was released. The seven-inch touchscreen is ideally placed for drivers and performs many functions such as radio, stereo, and GPS systems. Also, interior equipment includes leather upholstery and carbon black interior trim. An additional carbon fiber upgrade adds carbon fiber to the door inserts, tunnel edges, gear lever, ailerons, and steering wheels. You can opt for standard sports seats or carbon fiber racing seats. Additionally, the 540C offers 5 cubic feet of space for cargo, making it an entry-level everyday sports car.
The 540C doesn’t have the everyday ruggedness and usability that its competitors have or that McLaren can promise. It drives incredibly well for a supercar, but other premium cars have a lot of whining and clicking to filter out. The steering wheel constantly vibrates in your hands, and the 540C occasionally finds cambers and channels in the road, the 540C onto a winding road, and any feeling of discomfort or frustration is quickly forgotten.
McLaren 540C : Engine
The McLaren 540C 2024 is equipped with McLaren’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. This is essentially the same engine found in all modern McLarens since the 12C, including the P1, though not the hypercar’s additional electric motor. In the 540C the engine produces 533bhp and 398 lb-ft of torque. While that’s certainly a healthy amount, 29 hp less than the 570S, 83 hp less than the old 12C, and 133 hp less than the 675LT – basically all cars with the same engine.
McLaren 540C : Safety
McLaren safety and driver assistance features on the McLaren 540C include an anti-lock braking system, emergency braking system, airbags, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control, seat belts, brake assist, vehicle stability control, and collision sensor. The 2024 McLaren 540C security also includes an anti-theft device, central locking, and engine immobilizer.
