2025 BMW 5 Series
The 2025 BMW 5 Series is a line of mid-size luxury cars produced by the German automaker BMW. BMW enhances the BMW 5 Series in performance, comfort, and advanced technology. Inside, the dashboard is well equipped, and the good design makes the cockpit of the 5 series a civilized space. Ranging from standard synthetic leather upholstery to the real thing in higher trims, the 5 Series cabin welcomes you with first-class finishes. However, its attractive but simple design is not as eye-catching as that of rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. In addition to the vibrant, responsive touchscreen, can operate the system via a control knob and buttons on the center console, physical controls on the dash, steering wheel-mounted controls, and voice recognition.
A large 12.3-inch high-resolution central display comes as standard on every 5 series. You can control this using BMW’s iDrive rotary knob, tapping the screen, or speaking various voice commands. All 5-series models come with a digital instrument display that can be configured to display a variety of information to the driver. Navigation, USB port, Bluetooth audio, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto features are included in the technology package.
2025 BMW 5 Series : Engine
All BMW 5 Series trim comes with its own unique powertrain; so there are plenty of engine options available with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. The entry-level 530i has a 248-horsepower four-cylinder engine that moves the sedan from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. The plug-in-hybrid 530e is similarly fast but has a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a total of 288 horsepower. The 540i’s 335-horsepower inline-six engine contributes to this model’s 4.9-second zero-to-60 time. The first two models are the real powerhouses in the series. The BMW M550i’s powerful 523-horsepower V8 enables zero-to-60 acceleration in 3.6 seconds. The BMW M5 features an even more powerful 600-horsepower V8 that reduces zero-to-60 acceleration time to 3.2 seconds.
The BMW 5 Series models deliver excellent fuel economy for a luxury midsize car. The 530i base model delivers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, while the 540i gets a nearly identical 25/32 mpg city/highway. The 530e plug-in hybrid is the most efficient 5 Series. In EV mode, it has up to 22 miles of all-electric range and a combined city/highway rating of up to 64 MPG equivalent. It gets 26 mpg combined in hybrid mode. The M550i and BMW M5 models are much less efficient. The BMW M550i gets a best of 17/25 mpg, while the M5 returns only 15/21 mpg.
2025 BMW 5 Series : Safety
The IIHS awarded the BMW 5 Series its highest rating of Superior for its standard vehicle-to-vehicle forward collision avoidance system, while the optional vehicle-to-pedestrian system earned a moderate Advanced rating. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not crash-tested the BMW 5 Series. Standard driver assistance features include a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, driver drowsiness monitoring, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and forward automatic and emergency braking. Other 2025 BMW 5 Series available driver assistance features include hands-free parking assist, head-up display, lane keeping assist, traffic jam assist, surround-view parking camera system, and driving recorder.
