The standard folding third-row seat retracts into the space behind the seat, while the available second-row folding seats disappear neatly into underfloor storage bins. When all seats are folded down, a wide, flat load floor allows bulky loads to be easily transported and no heavy seats need to be dismantled to accomplish the conversion.

Considering the number of gray whiskers on carryover powertrains, it’s no surprise that the Grand Caravan’s EPA fuel economy estimates lag behind many of its more modern rivals. It performed particularly poorly in our real-world highway fuel economy testing, recording just 22 mpg (less than the 25 mpg EPA rating) at a steady 75 mph for 200 miles.

Safety is often an important consideration for minivan shoppers, but unfortunately, the Dodge Grand Caravan’s safety features are hampered by poor crashworthiness results and a lack of driver-assist technology. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded a 4-star rating to Grand Caravan, but it failed to earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Although it scores Well in most IIHS tests, its Poor result in the small overlap test is disappointing, it could be worse, but its rivals are all much better.
