2025 GMC Terrain

The 2025 GMC Terrain is a crossover SUV produced by American manufacturer General Motors under the GMC brand. The 2025 GMC Terrain shares its platform with the Chevrolet Equinox. The GMC Terrain is the smallest GMC vehicle slotted below the GMC Acadia. The GMC Terrain also indirectly replaced the Pontiac Torrent, which was often sold through the same dealerships before General Motors dropped the Pontiac brand. All trim levels are powered by a low-power turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower.

The interior is spacious and offers competitive storage space, but sub-par build quality detracts from the experience. The GMC Terrain comes standard with many of the equipment that compact SUV buyers now consider must-haves, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, a touch-screen infotainment system, and a host of driver-assistance features. Stepping up to the pricier Denali trim helps alleviate the worst of these problems, but rivals like the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-50 provide better features and performance for a similar price.

Inside, the Terrain’s ergonomically challenging push-button shifter adds salt to the compact crossover’s internal wounds. The dashboard consists of a few switches that resemble power window controls, located at the bottom of the center console, and are less intuitive to use. Buyers will get used to it over time, we found the small buttons difficult to locate at a glance, especially when shifting into reverse, making it difficult to quickly execute the transmission’s manual mode.

Easy to use and responsive to commands, GMC Terrain‘s infotainment system benefits from clear graphics, logical menus, and the latest in-car connectivity features. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot are standard. An in-dash navigation system is standard on the top Denali and is available on other models as well. A head-up display is available, standard on the Denali and optional on the SLT and AT4—but unlike other GM vehicles that project this feature onto the windshield, the Terrain uses a flip-up panel above the dash.

The Terrain has 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and a maximum of 63.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Those are good numbers, but some compact SUV rivals offer even more space. A manual liftgate is standard, while a hands-free power liftgate is also available.  The front seats are adult-friendly, with a good amount of cushioning and room, although a little firm. The front of the driver’s seat has good visibility, but the rear is a bit obstructed. The rear seats are also a bit hard, but there’s plenty of room for adults to sit comfortably. The Terrain comes with two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tie-down anchor for the rear middle seat.

2025 GMC Terrain : Engine

The GMC Terrain is equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is available. The 2025 Terrain delivers average fuel economy for a compact SUV. Front-wheel-drive Terrains return 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, while all-wheel-drive models drop to 23/28 mpg city/highway. 2025 GMC rides are more comfortable than sporty, suspension softens most bumps in the road, making the ride smooth and overall stable. Terrain body lean is relatively controlled when cornering, the steering is quite responsive and the brakes offer adequate stopping power, and can tow up to 1,500 pounds.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not crash-tested the 2025 GMC Terrain at the time of this writing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the GMC Terrain an overall safety rating of five out of five stars, with five stars in frontal and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test. Several driver-assistance features are standard, and more can be added as options. Key safety features include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rearview camera, hands-free parking assist, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection, rear seat alert, forward automatic emergency braking, and surround-view camera system, lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, safety seat alert, automatic high beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and head-up display.
