Both versions of the BMW X2 come standard with all-season tires, but the M35i xDrive has larger 20-inch wheels. Both X2 models ride on slightly wider tires than the previous model, contributing to the new X2’s more aggressive appearance. The top speed for both models equipped with all-season rubber is limited to 130 mph, but upgrading to performance summer tires gives the M35i xDrive a 6 mph head start into the danger zone, with a top speed of 255 mph; xDribve28i reaches speeds of 149 miles per hour.

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has crash-tested the BMW X2. The IIHS gave the similar 2024 model the highest rating of good in all six crash tests and the second-highest rating of Acceptable for how well the headlights illuminate the road. The X2 received the mid-level Advanced rating for its standard vehicle-to-vehicle frontal crash prevention system.
