2023 Chevrolet Volt
The 2023 Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid produced by General Motors. The 2023 Chevrolet Volt is a five-seat plug-in hybrid hatchback sedan available in LT and Premier trims. The Chevrolet Volt remains one of the best plug-in hybrids on the market, with an impressive all-electric range and everyday practicality. Unlike many plug-in hybrids that have a range of 20 miles or less on electric only, the Volt’s petrol engine can travel 83 miles before starting. Chevy also has a satisfying driving experience with fast acceleration and solid handling. The hybrid hatchback has some flaws, like a mediocre interior with a narrow rear seat, but it remains an outstanding hybrid and an excellent car.
The 2023 Chevy Volt features a new high-resolution 8.0-inch touchscreen display powered by the company’s latest Infotainment 3 system. Other improvements include improved driver assistance features and more interior options. The Volt Premier model adds a better sound system, heated front, and outer rear leather seats, and a heated steering wheel, among other features. The option also bloats the bottom line, so we’re skipping it. The standard features on the LT include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, a mobile hotspot, push-button start and proximity input, and single-zone automatic climate control.
The Chevrolet Volt differs from the original with its more logically arranged knobs and buttons. Adjusting the climate control manually can be a bit confusing. Access to the front is easy thanks to wide-opening doors and a nice roofline. The rear seat access is more difficult due to the lower roofline and smaller door opening. Tall people will have to lean a little. While the styling of the cabin has been much improved, the originality of the plastic and the overused plastic-chrome finish can withstand more refinement. Acceptable but not outstanding. Exterior assembly and paint quality are average.
2023 Chevrolet Volt : Interior
Inside, Volt’s interior design prioritizes function over form; suffers from a few outdated design details and a criminally small backseat. Passengers in the front seat will be perfectly satisfied with space to spread out, ample storage for small items, and a pair of comfortable front seats. It also suffered in our visibility tests due to the rear tailgate being so high and the 170-foot road blocking the driver’s view.
Every model features an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Chevy’s latest Infotainment 3 interface, a mobile hotspot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its easily accessible controls and multiple options will be familiar to fans of the legacy system. Of the features, only navigation and related traffic and weather monitoring are not standard on Volt. The Chevy Volt sacrifices a surprisingly small amount of cargo capacity to its electric drivetrain and will function like any other car of this size for road trips and airport voyages.
2023 Chevrolet Volt : Engine
The Chevrolet Volt has an impressive pure electric range of 83 miles, with its hybrid setup making it incredibly fast and extremely quiet. While it can’t charge as fast as the all-electric Chevy Bolt EV, the charging system can be upgraded to charge the battery in less than 2.5 hours. The Volt uses a newly available 7.2 kW internal charger, which significantly reduces charging time. The Volt’s long electric-only range makes it one of the most successful plug-in hybrids on the market. However, fuel economy becomes modest as the battery runs out of charge and has to rely more on its petrol engine. The petrol engine’s fuel economy also disappointed us in our highway test. When the battery ran out, it only gained 39 mpg.
2023 Chevrolet Volt : Safety
The Volt performed exceptionally well in crash tests and offers a wealth of driver assistance technologies. Unfortunately, only front and rear parking sensors are standard, so drivers who want blind spot monitoring or adaptive cruise control will have to spend extra money. The 2023 Chevrolet Volt’s key safety features include blind spot monitoring, automatic braking, collision warning, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
