2024 Fiat 124 Spider
The 2024 Fiat 124 Spider is a convertible sports car marketed by Fiat. The 2024 Fiat 124 Spider front-engined, rear-wheel drive Sport Spider, designed and manufactured in the Italian Pininfarina factory, was showcased at the November 1966 Turin Motor Show with the style of Tom Tjaarda. Fiat later marketed the car as the Spider 2000. After its retirement by FIAT, Pininfarina continued production of the model for three more years under its brand name, Pininfarina Spider Azzurra for the North American market and Pininfarina Spidereuropa for the European market.

The successor to the Fiat 124 Spider was presented at the LA Auto Show in 2015. The Fiat 124 name was revived in 2016 through a joint venture with Mazda using the new Mazda MX-5 platform. After considering marketing the result as an Alfa Romeo Spider, the car was launched as a Fiat. It was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2015 and went on sale in late 2016. The engine is a 160 HP (119 kW) turbocharged 1.4 MultiAir from the Fiat series.

The 124 sets itself apart with styling cues taken from the original version, giving it a significantly different exterior from the Miata. The Fiat is a more relaxed version of the Mazda, with a nice reduction in interior noise due to extra soundproofing measures, higher quality materials in the interior, a more powerful turbo engine, and a bit more luggage space.

However, the engine lacks responsiveness and is slower than the Miata, despite the extra power. And make sure you fit, because, like the Mazda Miata, the 124’s cabin is pretty compact. Overall, the Fiat 124 Spider 2024 is a very good little roadster that lives in the shadow of the even better Miata.

Inside, cabin space is tight, especially for drivers and passengers taller than 1.8 meters. The roof curves tightly over the cabin when raised, and the small rear window adds to the restrained nature of the interior. All 124 Spiders come with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Users can also operate the touchscreen via a center console button and share the infotainment software with the Miata. The setup is simple and takes advantage of shortcut buttons for volume, navigation, and main menus placed around the control button. Bluetooth, auxiliary audio input, spare steering wheel audio, and phone controls are standard, but the rest of the tech is basic. Smartphone connectivity platforms such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.

All 2024 Fiat 124 Spider models come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 160 hp on the Classica and Lusso models and 164 hp on the Abarth models. The Fiat 124 Spider engine revs, the 1.4 liter has little to offer, and the pleasure wears off long before the speedometer hits the red line. Fiat earns brilliant fuel economy estimates in the EPA’s test cycle. In our real-world highway fuel-economy test, the Fiat 124 Spider with manual transmission outstripped the highway EPA rating of 35 mpg, with a result of 39 mpg.

The Fiat 124 Spider comes with a more limited warranty and longer-term roadside assistance than the Miata. Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested a 124 Spider, and its driver assistance capabilities are extremely limited. The 2024 Fiat 124 Spider’s key safety features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.
