The rest of the updates actually include reductions in equipment on the S, SE, and SEL models. These changes include two-way adjustable headrests that replace last year’s four-way adjustable units, the removal of turn signal indicators on the exterior mirrors of the SE trims, the removal of the rear seat mats on S models, and the auxiliary entry jack and door release lever ambient lighting elements on all models. The 2023 Focus SE and SEL models are no longer equipped with a driver-side seatback map pocket, and the single-disc CD player has been removed from the S and SE models.

Choosing the SEL gets you a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It’s also choosing the Cold Weather package, which includes heated front seats and a heated steering wheel to make cold mornings less unpleasant.

The Ford Focus has gone through an internal overhaul for a long time, and the widespread use of plastic trim and the outdated-looking cabin is clearly weak points. At least the controls are mostly simple and easy to use. Friends and family won’t like to be crammed into the Focus’s tiny rear compartments, as rear-seat passengers’ legroom is extremely meager compared to nearly all its rivals. The small windows don’t help alleviate the claustrophobic feeling of the interior.

The optional touchscreen infotainment system is extremely easy to use, with well-organized menus and large on-screen buttons. The basic setup uses a much smaller screen and offers far fewer connectivity features. We recommend upgrading to SEL or Titanium coatings, which have a more advanced system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Practicality is not Focus’s strength and cargo handling numbers are moderate, but the cabin lacks storage space for small items. In our tests, it fit in four of our luggage with the rear seats in use and 15 with the rear seats folded down.

All 2023 Focus models are front-wheel drive, and petrol power for the core series comes from the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, available in standard 123bhp form or in versions with 48v mild hybrid technology producing 123bhp and 153bhp. The Focus has great fuel economy, is well-insured, and doesn’t perform too badly when it comes time to resell. With a 38 mpg result, it has EPA ratings and most of its competitors in our real-world tests. Maximum fuel efficiency is the turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder with a standard six-speed manual transmission. It comes standard with an engine stop/start system and is rated by the EPA at 40 mpg on highways.
2023 Ford Focus : Safety
Euro NCAP gave the Focus five stars when tested for safety. The model was quite good at protecting adults and children in the back but lost points during testing because automatic emergency braking (AEB) was not offered. Since then, AEB has become standard equipment on every Focus trim level. On top of that, you get lane-keeping assistance as standard. It’s a pity that the driver alert monitor, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, and adaptive cruise control aren’t included as standard, according to the entry-level Life trim Golf, the driver assistance package, and blind spot monitoring is also available as the 2023 Ford Focus standalone option.
