2025 Honda HR-V
The 2025 Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Japanese automaker Honda. The 2025 Honda HR-V crossover SUV is available in three trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L. All Honda HR-V models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to a continuously variable automatic transmission; front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional. The complete redesign of the Honda HR-V brought modern styling, updated technology, and a little more power. The little Honda has plenty of passenger room and ample cargo space and is competitively priced.
The Honda HR-V also comes standard with Honda Sensing, an impressive suite of advanced driver assistance. The center console of the Honda HR-V is located higher than in many other cars, and I found this annoying. On the plus side, there’s a useful storage area below the drive mode selector. The HR-V is a respectable subcompact SUV, with rivals to test drive the Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, and Volkswagen Taos before settling on the Honda.
2025 Honda HR-V : Interior
Inside, the interior of the cabin is stylish and modern, with cool design touches and plenty of high-quality materials. The HR-V features a modern interior inspired by the Honda Civic that is both classic and attractive. The front seats are comfortable and supportive and offer a wide range of adjustments. Although it may look a little unadorned, the 2025 HR-V’s cabin is dotted with thoughtful touches and well-placed storage compartments. Practicality is a big part of the HR-V’s appeal, the cargo area proved to be large enough to accommodate seven carry-ons; With the rear seats folded down, we fit 22 suitcases behind the front row.
All Honda HR-V models come with a 7.0- or 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; The larger screen offers wireless connectivity for these features, but it’s limited to the upper EX-L trim. A wireless smartphone charging pad is also standard on the EX-L. The 2025 HR-V provides 24.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, which fold nearly flat to create a boxy 55.1 cubic feet of space, loading and unloading are also easy.
The HR-V front row is roomy and comfortable, and the driver has good visibility in most directions. Large doors make access easy, and the rear seats have ample head and leg room for adults. Two complete sets of LATCH connectors are available for the HR-V’s rear outboard seats. There’s also a tie-down anchor for the middle rear seat, and you can borrow the lower anchors from either side when they’re not in use. All anchor points are easy to find and use, but the center anchor can be difficult to find.
2025 Honda HR-V : Engine
The HR-V is powered by a hybrid powertrain borrowed from the Accord, but the U.S. version only comes with a conventional 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine good for 158 horsepower. The HR-V reached 60 mph in a slow start of 9.4 seconds during our acceleration test. That’s more than a full second slower than the more powerful, non-turbocharged Mazda CX-30. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the HR-V feels lethargic and gutless, but since the SUV shares the same platform with the Civic, we could see a 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter or hybrid powertrain join the lineup down the line.
Fuel economy estimates are highest for front-wheel-drive models, rated at 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. All-wheel drive drops to 25 mpg in the city rating, and 30 mpg at highway. Maximum 75-mph highway fuel economy test route, the HR-V exceeded the EPA estimate by 2 mpg and can run approximately 440 miles of highway driving on a single tank of gas.
