2025 Kia Niro
The 2025 Kia Niro is a compact crossover SUV produced by Kia Motors. Kia Niro is a versatile and environmentally friendly vehicle that appeals to drivers looking for a combination of efficiency, practicality, and modern technology. Niro has a stylish and modern design with a spacious interior and comfortable seating area for passengers. The Kia Niro’s crossover design gives it a blend of SUV-like practicality and the maneuverability of a smaller car. Niro is available with three different powertrain options: hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and all-electric (EV).
While hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions offer excellent fuel consumption, the fully electric version provides zero-emission driving. Kia Niro is equipped with a host of high-tech features. This includes touchscreen infotainment systems, smartphone integration, and driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. Niro features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking are available on higher trim levels.
2025 Kia Niro : Interior
Inside, the Kia Niro used recycled materials and natural fibers such as eucalyptus leaves in the headliner and upholstery. Passenger space is comfortable, but ultimately the Niro is a small crossover and offers enough room for four adults and a cargo area large enough for a large grocery store. Ambient interior lighting adds a touch of luxury, and the rotary shift knob is similar to what you’ll find in the Genesis luxury car. In our testing, we placed eight pieces of carry-on luggage behind the Niro Hybrid’s rear seats and 20 with the rear seats folded. The plug-in hybrid model lasted a bit less because its battery consumed some of the cargo space, but we still fit six carry-ons behind the rear seats, for 18 total.
The Niro Hybrid’s standard infotainment display is an 8.0-inch touchscreen; A larger 10.3-inch infotainment screen is available on all models except the base LX trim and features in-dash navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. EX trims and above get a wireless smartphone charging pad, while SX and SX Touring trims ditch the standard six-speaker stereo for a seven-speaker Harman/Kardon setup. The Niro plug-in hybrid is one of the smallest footprint hybrid SUVs, with just 19.4 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 54.6 cubic feet when you fold the seats down. There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the Niro’s rear outboard seats and a tie-down anchor for the rear middle seat.
2025 Kia Niro : Engine
The Niro Hybrid is powered by a 139-horsepower powertrain consisting of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard, and the Niro is offered only with front-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid powertrain adds a more powerful electric motor to the mix for a total of 180 horsepower. Neither model is particularly exciting to drive, but the plug-in hybrid offers superior acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 7.3 seconds at our test track; the standard hybrid hit 60 mph in 8.9 seconds.
The plug-in-hybrid variant has an 11.1 kWh battery pack, which should be good for around 33 miles of electric driving range per charge. Kia says the battery can be recharged in less than three hours when the vehicle is connected to a Level 2 charger. In our testing, the plug-in hybrid managed to cover 25 miles on electric power on the highway before resorting to the gas engine for additional range.
According to the EPA, the Niro Hybrid is rated up to 53 mpg in the city and 54 mpg on the highway, but that’s only true for the base LX trim. The Niro Hybrid EX Touring managed just 39 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route; The Niro plug-in hybrid returned 37 mpg in the same test.
2025 Kia Niro : Safety
Kia Niro comes with several driver-assistance features as standard including pedestrian detection capabilities, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist. A more advanced adaptive cruise control system with a centering feature is offered. Crash test results will be available at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include blind spot monitoring, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assist, vehicle exit warning, rear parking sensors, rear seat alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, intersection assist, driver attention monitoring, automatic high beam headlights, rearview camera and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
