2024 Mazda CX-3
The 2024 Mazda CX-3 is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by Mazda. The 2024 Mazda CX-3 is a slightly left-handed alternative to small SUVs like the Nissan Juke, SEAT Arona, and Renault Captur. The Mazda CX-3 has a great cabin, looks decent, and is fun to drive. As with most modern Mazdas, the engine range drops it a bit, while the interior isn’t quite as wide as a Honda HR-V. The cabin feels modern and sporty, with many elegant touches that make it feel more like a Mazda MX-5 than a Nissan Juke rival.
The 2024 CX-3 can also be called an SUV for car lovers, as the seat height is slightly higher than the Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback but still very car-like and its enthusiastic chassis comes alive on a winding road. A 146 hp four-cylinder engine provides motivation but is not particularly refined and all-wheel drive is extra costly. The most notable standard features include a 7.0-inch touchscreen display, automatic climate control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, head-up display, and lane departure warning. The Mazda CX-3 feels sportier than most small SUVs, thanks in part to its large central tachometer, deeply recessed digital displays, and an intelligent three-spoke leather steering wheel.
All of its switches are pleasant and intuitive to use, and the three circular heating and ventilation control dials in the center console are easy to grasp. These are much more intuitive to use than the touchscreen temperature controls found on a Citroen C4 Cactus. Each 2024 Mazda CX-3 comes with some shiny metal-effect trim around the gear lever and faux leather dash trim, but nothing hides the hard plastic on the center console and doors. High-end cars come with partial leather seats with contrasting gray piping as standard. All models feature a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the dash, which comes with an easy-to-operate rotary control in the center console, just like in an Audi or BMW, looks pretty smart and you get satellite navigation as standard.
Mazda CX-3 : Interior
The 2024 CX-3’s well-built and impressively detailed cabin has a premium feel, and the comfortable and direct driving position makes it easy to settle in for the ride. Rear passenger space is limited, which reduces its practicality as a means of transporting people. Fans of simplicity will appreciate the cabinet. Mazda opted for textured plastics, soft leather, and shiny chrome details. The three large rotary knobs of the air conditioning system are one of several controls on the dashboard.
The CX-3 is just as stingy when it comes to cargo rooms as it is in the passenger area. It fell at or near the bottom of the pack in both of our storage tests. All CX-3s come standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system positioned above the contoured front panel. A rotary knob is located in the center console to prevent the screen from getting dirty and to avoid the need to reach forward to operate the system while driving. A head-up display rises from the top of the instrument cluster and provides information such as speed and navigation.
Mazda CX-3 : Engine
The Mazda CX-3 2024 base comes with a 146-hp four-cylinder engine. The engine itself feels rough, especially at high speeds, but its rev-pleasing nature adds a liveliness that its rivals lack. The CX-3 adheres to the sporting spirit of the Mazda brand and is undoubtedly the most athletic model in this class. Its fun-to-drive character is made up of many elements, including a lively chassis, well-controlled body rotation, and masterful suspension tuning that walks the fine line between firm and too stiff. All this contributes to the predictability that facilitates fast driving, improving control. The front-wheel drive model’s EPA estimates of 29 mpg city and 34 mpg highway put it near the top of the segment; All-wheel drive models carry 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway ratings. Our all-wheel-drive test car delivered 30 mpg, which is lower than the EPA highway rating, but in line with most of its competitors.
Mazda CX-3 : Safety
The CX-3 earns excellent crash test scores. It received five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Choice award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The CX-3 comes standard with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The more advanced driver assistance technology package is the icing on the cake and is available on all models. 2024 Mazda CX-3 key safety features include blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and a lane departure warning system.
