2024 Mazda 5
The 2024 Mazda5 or 2024 Mazda 5 is a mid-size (Minivan) wagon from Mazda. The Mazda 5 is a three-row, six-passenger compact minivan available in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels. Sport comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, full power accessories, keyless entry, cruise control, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, 50/50 split rear folding seats, telescoping steering wheel and CD player, USB port and auxiliary a six-speaker audio system with an audio jack.
The 2024 Mazda5 Touring adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, a rear spoiler, rear parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, a trip computer, and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity. The Mazda 5 also offers a few standalone options such as remote ignition, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rear seat DVD entertainment system. Also, the 3-row seat is small, its crash test scores are moderate, and it’s missing a few features like power sliding doors, rear-view camera, blind-spot monitor, and even the electric sliding doors that most modern minivan intentions underestimate.
The Mazda 5 is clearly smaller than what is typically considered a minivan today but still packs plenty of interior versatility. Larger families with pets and bikes will be better served by mainstream vans like the Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona, and Toyota Sienna. Alternatively, there are many family-friendly options available in the small crossover segment, such as the Ford C-Max hybrid and Honda CR-V.
Mazda 5 : Interior
The comfortable second-row captain’s seats slide and recline, while the passenger-side seat features a stylish folding center table/storage net; order. On the front, the dashboard layout looks sleek, simple, and modern, except for the numerous volume control buttons. But the controls are easy to reach and operate, which helps the 5 feel like a regular car behind the wheel. The front seats offer considerable comfort, but adults with longer legs will definitely want to travel more in the back seat.
With the help of wide sliding door openings, the 2024 Mazda 5’s third row offers easier access than almost any three-row crossover. Seats that fold 50/50 are most suitable for children, as they do not have adequate foot and headroom for adults. The second row is quite wide in comparison. However, if you place rear-facing car seats in the middle row, that roominess is quickly consumed, and car owners will find that the front seats need to be moved further forward than in standard-sized minivans. Although the Mazda 5 truly represents a “mini” van, it is not devoid of cargo volume. Folding down the third-row seats provides 44.4 cubic feet of space. Dropping second place also significantly increases capacity. The only real downside to the 5 compared to larger minivans is its narrower cabin, which sometimes requires you to load bulkier items like strollers at an angle.
Mazda 5 : Engine
The base Mazda 5 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 157 hp and 163 pound-feet of torque. It transmits its power to the front wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. In performance testing, a Mazda 5 Grand Touring accelerated from zero to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. That’s slower than any V6-powered minivan, but pretty much the same as a four-cylinder-powered compact crossover. The Mazda 5 is rated at an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined (21 cities/28 highways).
Mazda 5 : Safety
The Mazda 5 comes with standard stability and traction control, anti-lock disc brakes, front-side airbags, and full-size side curtain airbags. Rear parking sensors are optional, but items such as a rearview camera, blind spot warning system, and forward collision warning system, all common safety features in larger minivans, are not available. In the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety test, the Mazda 5 earned the top score of best in the moderately overlapping understeer impact and roof strength tests. However, in the side-effects test it scored the lowest and in the small overlapping front offset test, the lowest rating was poor. The 2024 Mazda5 seat and headrest design is rated the second highest for longitudinal impact protection in rear impacts.
