2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class : Interior
The interior of the G-Class is a blend of luxury and functionality, crafted from premium materials such as leather, wood, and metal accents to create an air of luxury. Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, heated front and rear leather-trimmed seats, power steering, trieth-zone automatic climate control, sunroof, and three 12v power outs. By checking a few option boxes, buyers can enjoy air conditioning, massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, and Nappa leather upholstery. The G Manufaktur options offer a more refined aesthetic, including different upholstery options, but they cost a lot of money.
There is no lack of headroom in the front or back seats, the Mercedes-Benz G-class is still a luxurious and well-equipped box, the dashboard and infotainment screen is placed upwards, the driving position is almost like a bus, and the large, flat glass surfaces occasionally create disturbing images throughout the cabin. Feel the beauty of other luxury SUVs such as Bentley Bentayga or Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but the G550 has the same presence. There is also tons of cargo space. The model we tested accommodates 16 carry-on bags in the back and another 17 bags folded into those seats.
A standard 12.3-inch infotainment screen sits in the center of the G550’s nearly vertical dashboard and is topped with Mercedes’ latest MBUX software. Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Burmester stereo system are all standard. Those looking for more upgrades can add a rear seat entertainment system that gives passengers the ability to stream video content, interact with the infotainment system, or browse the Internet.
2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class : Engine
Mercedes-Benz G550s comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 443 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. A 48-volt hybrid system helps, but it doesn’t offer the same electric-only driving range. The powertrain sends its torque to the wheels via a nine-speed manual gearbox; four-wheel drive, three popular differential locks (front, middle, and rear), and a low level are standard. The steering of the new generation G550 feels more precise and the ride quality is stable on all but the worst terrains. The G550 comes with 18-inch wheels with split tires instead of the standard model’s 19-inch and all-season wheels, and that package will return in 2025.
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G550 has a towing capacity of 7716 pounds, which is impressive considering the larger Mercedes-Benz GLS580 and similarly equipped Cadillac Escalade are rated at 7700 pounds. The G550 has many complaints, but fuel efficiency is not one of them. Even with the new six-cylinder powertrain, a sharp increase in the SUV’s EPA ratings is expected. When we get a chance, take the G500 on our 75 mph freeway route, part of our extensive testing program, and update this story with real-world results.
