2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a large touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL luxury convertible has seating for four passengers. The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is available in two finishes: AMG SL 55 and AMG SL 63. The build quality is top-notch, the fitment and finish are excellent, and there are no issues such as panel gaps or strange rattles from the top. The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 2023 looks and feels, especially from the inside. The leather is soft and the carbon fiber trim looks sporty, even if it is the preferred choice for performance cars today.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL is a sharp-looking car, especially since it reverts to the soft top instead of the last generation’s slightly weird-looking retractable sunroof. It’s long and low but doesn’t look as flashy as the BMW M8 or Audi R8. The somewhat restrained exterior is offset by the striking interior. The ambient lights and details in the finish give it a real premium feel. Unlike the BMW 8 Series or even the Porsche 911, there is no non-AMG version of the SL. All SLs have V8s. It makes the car feel a little more special and privileged.
2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class : Interior
Inside, the Mercedes-Benz SL’s infotainment system is similar to other Mercedes-Benz cars. All controls are easy to see and access, and the center display can even be tilted to reduce glare when the top is down. The fabric roof is surprisingly quiet and takes up less cargo space than the previous SL folding hardtop, but is slow to raise or lower. The controls are on the touchscreen instead of a switch. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class navigation system is impressive.
The large screen provides a large, easy-to-read map. Turn-by-turn directions are easy to enter and use. You can use voice commands to do things like to enter an address or search for a gas station, and the system is robust enough to even understand you from top to bottom. If you prefer to use your smartphone, the AMG SL SL has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. AMG SL has four USB-C ports and a wireless charging pad.
The SL comes with a wide range of driver aids, from adaptive cruise control to augmented reality displays for the navigation system. The aids mostly worked well in our tests. The adaptive cruise control left a consistent gap between it and the vehicle in front and smoothly regulated the speed. Our only major complaint was the forward collision warning system, which was a bit overzealous.
2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Engine
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 55 is powered by a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The AMG SL 63 tweaks the same engine to increase output to 577 hp and 590 lb-ft. The SL has an EPA estimate of 16 mpg for combined city/highway driving. This applies to both the AMG SL 55 and the AMG SL 63. That’s average for a high-powered luxury convertible. But unlike its competitors, there’s no way to get a more fuel-efficient six-cylinder engine.
2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Safety
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz lass SL is the world’s safest car and is so innovative that Mercedes still boasts an automatic rollbar. The automatic roll bar pops up just before a predicted collision, even with the fixed roof installed! I once had the rollbar open without crashing. Mercedes-Benz has long been seen as a safety pioneer, and it still is to this day. Mercedes-Benz carried out the early crash test. The results of internal crash tests and accident investigation activities are incorporated into the design of new models and are also used to improve existing systems. A number of driver assistance features will be available, but it is unclear which will be standard and which optional. 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class key safety features will likely include adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, and lane centering.
