The 2022 Scion tC is a compact car manufactured by Toyota under the Scion brand. The Scion tC cabin has a very sporty look. The system strives for a high-quality sports car aesthetic with a thick, flat bottom steering wheel, driver-provided cradle seats and controls. Unfortunately, the perimeter of the cabin is satisfied by a plethora of slightly cheaper plastic covers and cushioned armrests. Happily, the touch screen interface is clear and easy to use, and its integration with smartphones combines Internet radio, Yelp, and other popular social media apps.

From a practical point of view, the tC is the best choice among compact coupes. The rear seat legs are above average and the rear entry and exit are much easier by two-door standards. The rear seat belts are even sloping, a feature typically found in crossover SUVs. The tC behind the rear seats can carry a load of 14.7 cubic feet, while folding these belts creates a total of 34.5 cubic feet of space. The style of the hatchback body also means that it is easier to load bulky items into the tC than traditional coupes like the KC Forte Coupe.

The front-wheel drive Scion tC has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 179 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. The six-speed manual transmission conforms to the standard, while the six-speed automatic is optional with paddle shifter and automatic shifts in downshifts. In testing the Edmunds performance, the Scion 2022 tC manual transmission reached a top speed of 60 mph from zero in 7.3 seconds. The machine did the same run in 7.8 seconds. Both are very fast time for this class of car. Whether equipped with a manual or automatic transmission, the tC returns 26 mpg (23 city / 31 highway) calculated by EPA. In the Edmunds test, we found it easy to replicate these numbers, and light-legged drivers can perform much better. In our 116-mile mixed driving evaluation cycle, we observed 32.6 mpg.
