The Scion FR-S sports coupe comes in one trim level. Standard equipment, 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, air conditioning, full power accessories, height-adjustable driver’s seat, tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, rearview camera, Bluetooth phone, and audio connection, eight speakers with 7-inch touchscreen audio system, voice commands, HD radio, Aha radio, auxiliary audio input, and a USB interface.

Apart from exterior color and transmission options, Scion does not offer any factory options for the FR-S. Instead, there’s a host of vendor-installed accessories like fog lights, performance parts, and a premium BeSpoke audio system with navigation, additional smartphone app integration, and Internet radio.

The cockpit of the 2024 FR-S looks a bit bare compared to other compact sports cars. The FR-S’s front seats are comfortable for long-distance journeys while providing firm support for tough driving. Drivers of almost any size can find a suitable driving position, and the low-profile hood provides a wide view of the road ahead. Scion has updated its touchscreen-based audio system this year, so if you really don’t want the navigation and smartphone app integration, you probably have less reason to use the upgraded BeSpoke system this year. Rear seat legroom is close to zero, heads come dangerously close to the rear window, and the center tunnel obstructs the hip room. Luggage space is small at 6.9 cubic feet, but folding the mostly useless rear seat expands its cargo-carrying capabilities considerably.
2024 Scion FRS : Engine
The 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine producing 200 hp and 151 pound-feet of torque is the sole powerhouse for the 2024 Scion FR-S. You can pair it with the standard six-speed manual transmission or with the optional six-speed automatic transmission with gearshift buttons and rev-matched downshifts. In testing, a manually-equipped Scion FR-S sprinted from zero to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, fast, though not as fast as the more powerful but heavier sports coupes. The six-speed manual Scion FR-S gives a respectable EPA estimate of 25 mpg (22 city/30 highway) total, while the automatic achieves an impressive 28 mpg (25/34).

The Scion FR-S standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, and full-size side curtain airbags. In a brake test, a Scion FR-S stopped at 117 feet from 60 miles. That’s a reasonable distance, but slightly longer than average for a car with summer tires. In government crash tests, the Scion FR-S earned five out of five stars for overall crash protection, including four stars for total frontal collision protection and five stars for overall side-impact safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the highest possible good rating in tests for moderately overlapping front offset, side impact, roof strength, and headrest/seat. The 2024 Scion FRS scored the second highest score in the small overlap front offset test.
